Hey - nice to meet you! I'm Marten Rode, the person behind Holoserica Costumes.

As a child, I was never really interested in fashion and clothing – I wanted to be an entomologist. But studying biology wasn't quite what I'd imagined. After dropping out, I drifted aimlessly around for a while until I stumbled upon cosplay – and that's when it clicked. I quickly realized: this wasn't just something I wanted to do in my spare time – design and sewing were my true passion.

So in 2019, I began studying fashion design at the Akademie Deutsche POP and successfully completed my studies (despite the pandemic!). But I wasn't satisfied: the quality of my work wasn't high enough for me, so my next step was an apprenticeship as a women's dressmaker. Despite extremely difficult circumstances and various setbacks, I successfully completed this apprenticeship as well, receiving my Gesellenbrief (certificate of completion of a German apprenticeship). Then it was time for the question many ask themselves after completing their training: quo vadis?

After careful consideration, I decided to become self-employed with Holoserica Costumes instead of applying for a permanent position - this way I can pursue my dream job at my own pace.

I haven't been self-employed for very long, but I plan to stay – and I'd be delighted if you'd like to accompany me for a while on this journey!
